Our Story

The challenges facing farms are encouraging farmers to look for new opportunities. Randles Fairview Farm has been in operation for more than 150 years. As a current partner and caretaker for the future, Dave and Marge Randles decided to move into the value-added dairy market as a way to help the farm achieve greater, more controlled rates of return.

With extremely high quality milk on their 50 cow herd, Dave and Will Randles have an outstanding resource for this type of operation. They use no synthetic hormones and grow 100% of their forages fed to the cows. This natural fit is one of the drivers for the addition of the dairy processing business.

The Argyle Cheese Factory was born after much work and discussion. A building now houses the equipment that will allow Marge and Dave to produce yogurt, cheese and other products.

While the product-line is still a work-in-progress, the Argyle Cheese Farmer plans to make a plain yogurt , “Maple Madness” a yogurt with maple syrup in it and “Vanilla Cream”. Other products will include: “Cheddar Bites” - fresh cheese curds, “Mozzarella Morsels”, Queso Fresca, “McKelvey Revival”, a Scottish cheddar cheese, and “Shannon’s Secret” a caerphilly-style cheese.

Both raw milk and pasteurized products are scheduled to be part of the production line. Please check back to find what we are currently producing.

Whey Better Bread ™

While developing the cheese recipes in their kitchen, Marge started experimenting making bread with the by-product of cheese production, whey. This liquid that remains after the curd is formed for cheese contains protein and other nutrients. Along with a nutritional value, the whey adds a distinctive flavor characteristic to the bread.

Varieties will be: Honey oat bread, English muffin bread and a whole grain yogurt bread. Also a focaccia flat bread will be available.

These unique products will enable the Argyle Cheese Farmer to fully utilize all of the components of the cheesemaking process. Reducing waste and providing a pleasing companion to their cheeses.
